Infrastructure : Zuari Agro Chemicals


Commissioned in 1973, the Zuari fertiliser plant is a hallmark in the development of large-scale industry in Goa. At the time of initiation, the plant was the largest industrial undertaking in Goa, acting as an impetus for rapid economic growth in the surrounding areas. The plant was started as a financial and technical collaboration between the house of Birlas, US Steel Corporation (USX), International Finance Corporation, and the Bank of America. The design, engineering, and construction of the plant were carried out by Toyo Engineering Japan. The entire manufacturing facility comprises of four separate plants, namely the Ammonia, Urea, NPK A and NPK B. Zuari’s complex fertiliser plants use the latest in pipe reactor technology and are based on the slurry granulation process.


In 1995 Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited engaged in production and trading of Hybrid & High-Yielding Seeds and Crop Care Products. The processing plants is located in Hyderabad and Chilmattur in the state of Andhra Pradesh and research & testing facilities at Bangalore, Hyderabad and Aurangabad to ensure the highest standards of quality.


Zuari Agro Chemicals Ltd has commissioned a 2 lakh MTPA capacity Granulated SSP plant at MIDC, Mahad, in the state of Maharashtra. The addition of SSP, under the brand name Super 16, will further strengthen the Jai Kisaan product portfolio.


Another plant, located in Baramati, has a production capacity of 24,000 metric tonnes annually in two shift operations. Currently, the plant manufactures one WSF grade of NPK fertiliser, namely 19:19:19 (Poorna-19). The commissioning of the plant has deepened Zuari’s engagement with the farming community to maximise crop yield.
