Goa is a state with agricultural diversity. The Government of Goa has taken active steps to ensure that agriculture in the state prospers. The principle crops grown in the state are rice and coconut. Other important crops include maize, ragi, and pulses. The state’s cash crops include coconut, cashew, areca nut, mango, banana and pineapple etc. Sanjivani sugar factory based at Dayanandnagar Goa is the major food processing industry of the state.
Numerous fruits are grown in the state include a variety of mangoes and jackfruit. The vegetables grown in Goa include brinjal, lady’s finger, radish, cucumber, breadfruit, onions and various gourds to name a few.
The Government in Goa has stressed the need for diversification of crops in the state. Tender coconuts and floriculture are expected to be major bread earners for agriculture in the state.
